Shopping Sherlock Scam or not?

shopping sherlock scam or not
shopping sherlock scam or not

This is said to be based in the US. The company behind this is called "Best In U". Their office is located in Santa Monica California. This is a web app that helps you find the best deals online. It will be installed in your web browser like chrome, firefox or safari and every time you search for something you want to buy in the internet it will help you find the lowest price possible for that item. A very brilliant and handy app to have right? Well if you want to be a distributor you have to pay $249. Still interested?
You may ask why!!???
Look at Yahoo, Facebook, Google they have top of the line technologies but they are free to use.. Why is  shopping sherlock costing  you money???
I think I have the answer. Those internet giants with far more powerful free technology, products and services are not engaged in Networking or Multi Level Marketing (MLM). They got money their money from advertisers and they advertise them to us when we use their free technologies.

How about Shopping Sherlock?

I will be frank on this, for me, this really smells fishy. Instead of advertisers, they got most of their money from us users. I don't think Shopping Sherlock will have any value that people should pay premium for its use. Shopping Sherlock is far more inferior compared to those free to use technologies provided by established internet companies.
In my opinion, the reason why it will cost you money is because shopping sherlock is engaged in MLM/Networking. Part of the money you pay will be the commission of the one who introduce Shopping Sherlock to you. In addition, you also have to pay the commissions of those useless layers of uplines going up the pyramid.
For me I consider shopping sherlock a pyramiding scheme. I can not see value of service for this web app compared to for example the free to use Google shopping, there is no compelling reason for people to buy this and you earn mainly by recruitment.

These reasons are enough to convince me that Shopping Sherlock is a Pyramiding Scheme and possibly a Scam.

If you want to have the best deals online Google shopping is better. I tested it myself, see the video below:

As you can see in the video everything is made very convenient for shopping sherlock, It was set in USA shops setting and it was tasked to search a very common product (Ipod touch), yet it failed. How much more if it was in other countries? how will it do for uncommon products?
Why did they already expand to the Philippines? Although it is growing, we still do not hugely buy online, we even do not have Amazon here.
Is it because they are only interested in getting money out us? Am I right to say that Shopping sherlock is a pyramiding scheme?

  1. Update:

It was not clear in the article but it is only if you want to be a distributor that you have to pay $249. You can download the web app for free.

But still I have my feet on the following issues.

    1. Shopping Sherlock is not that powerful, very inferior and not even working. The unedited video provides a solid basis for that.

    2. The Multi Level Marketing/Networking attached to it still smells fish for me. If it is not working in the USA shops and can not search very common products over there, I see no good reason why they expand worldwide even to third world countries like the Philippines. It seems to me that they are only looking for easy preys for their scheme, they know there are abundant in developing countries.

Let me just add a point..

here in the Philippines, Shopping Sherlock is advertised and promoted as MLM/Networking, Most people don't know they have free web apps.

    2. hi I am a IT nerd here so what i say goes and thats it. NO argument. Shopping sherlock is utterly rubbish. Its like a child put it together with a cut and copy job of poor programming. Even I can make one over 2 weeks and have billions put into my account based on their money making figure. If that was true then all the hackers around the world and yes nerds like me too would have done it. So think if were not doing it is really going to make you money. Also the searches are very poor. I agree what has been said about the searches. We nerd look up to google because it can even search your bank account [yes its true] as a hacker. Sherlock couldnt even find a laptop for me lol well it did 600usd wrong country too and yes i had it set on uk lol. So he verdict is it a SCAM. another one in the bin

  2. You Know Nothing About The Company and How The System Works. :)
Yes you can get a free apps.
And it's up to you if you want to become a distibutor or not.
But The Distributor Earning Everytime You Click using Shopping Sherlock Tool (Payperclick) and (Payper Sale) commissions if you buy.
and also we have social networking, Blog, etc..
And your video example is for newbie like you :)
I talk to the CEO of shopping sherlock yesterday straight from taiwan. And Natatawa nalang cya sayo :)

    1. Thank you jenny for the comment,

First of all the traffic I would like is from unaware people, My goal is for the public's informed decision, to achieve that we must see the whole picture and address seen issues, not just be one sided.

In summary of the video here it is.

      1. Google shopping works.

      2. Shopping Sherlock was tasked to search a very common product (ipod touch) in the USA. It failed!

I suggest you watch the video again and open your mind to the facts.

yes I am a newbie and it is my first time to make a youtube video, It was very shaky, unprofessional, home made and using just camera from my phone. But, it also means it is unadulterated, unedited and raw. I do not care if your sarcastic CEO and all your IT professionals are laughing at my newbie video because it is far from your studio quality video presentations, All I care about is the clear information of truth that it presents to the PEOPLE, in which case it successfully did.. :)

I also do not believe that having the MLM/Networking company Shopping Sherlock here will boost the maturity of online shopping in the Philippines, What it only does is browse through existing online stores. For online buying to boom in the Philippines we need improved internet connection and access for the people, only then will online stores pop up in huge numbers. And that is clearly not what Shopping Sherlock provides. Its like providing a Hammer without a wood and a nail, POINTLESS.. :D

Ive lived in London and Milton Keynes England for three years and I experienced online buying maturity first hand.
Oh, Let me just add a point, I forgot to mention that Postal system is also Essential for online shopping to mature. In the UK they have Royal Mail very cheap and efficient, 99.9% of the package arrives to its destination, addresses are sorted via post codes, they can pin point your house anywhere in the country just with a house number and two sets of alpha numeric post code. I do not think Philippines will have that very soon.
Just giving numbers without knowing its coverage to the whole population is a poor presentation of facts, seeing its effect to a whole country is a proper gauge of its maturity. Get your facts straight.. :D

Wishing you all the best in life.. :)

    2. Hi.. I would just like to ask coz i feel like you are a distributor of this app and it's pretty obvious that you are from the Phil. I just have a few question as I also went over the You Tube over the net..

How do you get your money out of this app?
Does it go thru your local bank acct? do you also get your pay in US Dollars?
I have read one comment here that she/he cannot withdraw her/his money unless he/she gets another FOUR people to sign up/subscribe..Did this ever happen to you?
Can you also answer Technical questions about this app?

I understand that this may be a waste of time for you since you would not be earning by answering my questions but your answers would really affect my future plan of subscribing as a distributor and I am planning to attend one of your Webinars once I get to have my questions answered and to make sure that my money won't go to waste..thanks!

  4. Hey there, I found your article an approach absolutely ridiculous. Or joke.
Firstly, as a user tell me how much you paid for the App. Zero. Nada. Right? Like Google as you having it as an example.
Those pay who see the vision the power behind it. Simple. Who wants to build a biz. How the company got to the Philippines...People from the Philippines contacted the company. Started to build. Please, do not be so negative about a biz, that can help lots of people.
Seems your way of thinking is far from this, which is perfectly fine.
By the way. You mentioned particurarly which iPod Touch you were looking at, you supposed to put that exactly in your Google search to see the immediate and true result. So, try again, study first of all how to use it, then you can shoot a video.
Online shopping grows everywhere in the world. As people starting to use Facebook, Skype in the Philippines too...Shopping Sherlock can be useful online tool as well...
Do proper and simply searches with that, and you will see clear and amazing results. Plus, many times not Google Products that provides the lowest value...
So, please, share your opinion when you are ready.

    1. Thanks for finding my article a joke.. =)
I surely did appreciate that.. lol

I did correct that mistake about getting the app free, kindly read the first comment in this post. What did I say? =)

Regarding the business it is not just any kind of business. I suspect that is a pyramiding scheme. Its just my opinion and I may be wrong but as I see it the cashflow is mainly from recruiting. Not from a product or service, these are the kind of businesses that people should be very careful of. If that business did help a lot of people how many of the members are now rich and how many are earning way below the average wage?
It is just fair for my fellow countrymen to be aware of that facts. If they decided to join its up to them, at least they know.

It is just now that I know people must add particular details in their search for the shopping sherlock to work. But what I did was a very common practice for people shopping online. Do you think it is wise to let people adjust the way they shop online to use shopping sherlock? Or is it better for you to fix that issue and make it easy for people? As you say, shopping sherlock is easy, simple and powerful. But as I see it, I dont think so.
In that case, my crappy video should be a wake up call, it sure does show an issue of shopping sherlock that needs fixing.

I do not have to be perfectly right so share opinions. I am here to present my works and I am not ashamed to be corrected if I am wrong. What matters to me is the accumulated facts and information people get that came out from this.

  5. Thanks for this.
I think some of the comments here like the one from Jenny Smith came from the Shopping Sherlock group or are really people who have fallen for the scam and don't know it.

First of all you can see in their advertised link on facebook that they said they were "Seen on CNN", but they never provided any link or proof. If you try to ask them on youtube, your comment will be pending for approval first, of course.

See their advertised link here: http://myshoppingsherlock.com/thisistheone/

Oh, and they'll probably remove their "As seen on CNN" strategy once more and more people see through this scheme.

They also mention CNN here: http://www.shoppingsherlock.com/the-opportunity/

I mean COME ON. You were on CNN but you don't show even a tiny bit of proof? If ANY business was seen on CNN, it will definitely show a link to CNN's site or at least recorded CNN's video of them.

Next, look at their company profile. They don't even have a location. ANY legitimate business even a software company must would be more credible if they have a location that people can visit.

Lastly, their figures are way too much. It says it will find you the best deals and SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS a MONTH? A MONTH???? But who reviews these deals? Are they the best or simply the lowest price? (Just because it's the lowest price it doesn't mean it's the best.) How is it any better than going to amazon or sulit (for the Philippines) where hundreds of thousands of buyers review products. (Note: At least in sulit it's proving harder and harder for scammers because more and more people can review their products and talk about them in forums.)

In conclusion, they're just taking advantage of people's excitement of making money. That's the mark of a true pyramid scam.

If this business really wants to be credible enough, they should at least place their software on a reliable site like download.cnet.com or google apps where people can easily review it.

P.S. When you try to download their app from chrome, it doesn't come from the chrome extensions website, the only place where chrome extensions can be downloaded.

Frankly this business model brings no value for which we must be paying so much and they expand in an unethical way ...they expand in african countries where there is no internet access or very limited so what are thy looking for telling people lies...

    2. It's striking how many negative comments are coming from "Anonymous" people. Anyone with even an ounce of common sense and the ability to do basic research would realise that Shopping Sherlock is not a scam. The founder and CEO Michael Wiedder is a pioneer on the Internet, founded Online Expo in 1995 and has helped launch some of the leading Internet and technology companies. Check his bio for yourself....... why on earth would he start up a scam company?? It might seem "fishy" to some but maybe they did not take the time to research and do their due diligence?

  7. To the person that did the " i pod touch" search, i did the same exact search letter for letter, spaces and all. I am not sure what you did but the Sherlock worked perfect for me.

One other thing that seems to be overlooked is that yes Google (or yahoo, bing, etc.) works very well for shopping, but remember this: THEY LIST THEIR PRODUCTS BY WHO PAYS THE MOST TO BE RANKED THE HIGHEST. The reason the Sherlock is helpful for the online shopper is because it helps find the lowest price instead of Google simply listing who paid the most to be ranked the highest that day. Looking at it from that aspect I hope you will at least agree that although Google has arguably the best search tool in the world for many reasons, a tool like the Sherlock has real value as it shows results by price, not who paid the most. In the end the shopper simply has more choices than "just Google".

As far as paying to be a distributor, i did over a year ago but have done nothing with it yet, therefore understandably have not accrued very much commission. I simply haven't touched it. Stupid on my part yes but oh well. We plan to launch it to non profits in the next months who in turn ask their supporters to use it (for Free). I believe this could be a huge benefit for non profits.

The bottom line is the tool has valid value so the real question is does the Sherlock company pay out the residual income as promised. I plan to find out.

      * How do you know?

did google confirmed this? what is/who are your reference for this? or is this just an assumption from the shopping sherlock?

    2. sorry for interfering when this wasn't even my comment but... I truly do hope that you know google needs to get money from somewhere or else it wouldn't be free for it's users. so where does google get the money? simple: from companies who pay a lot to be ranked high in the world's greatest search engine. you can research this if you have to, but honestly it's mostly common sense. and OF COURSE google wouldn't brag about listing products by who pays the most to be ranked higher, that's self explanatory isn't it? you don't see a thief going around bragging about the diamond necklace he just stole. the fact that google makes a horrendous amount of money in the way that they do, is something the company keeps quiet about for obvious reasons.

so the reason that sherlock costs money for it's distributors is because the sherlock company needs to get money from somewhere or else there's no point of having a company, right? so since no company payed them to be listed higher, they list the product from what is actually the cheaper and better price, making it the better option for searching products online... correct me if I'm wrong but please do some research first.

    3. Actually Google gets its revenue from paid advertisements that are clearly labeled "advertisement." These are technically called PPC / Google adwords. This is how Google makes its money. The "organic" results are based on a complicated algorithm that makes its rankings based on integrity. You don't directly pay for organic search results and they often happen naturally from good established businesses.

  8. Teddybear, I believe you are right. I've just got a phone call from an acquaintance who wants me to help him find out where his money went (he signed up to be a distributor). I told him his money is gone. This is in Taiwan: businesses like Shopping Sherlock come here because there are a lot of people with (a) lots of money and (b) zero financial sense. Philippines likewise (I have some good friends from there ... who I wouldn't trust with $5 because they'd probably lose it on a scam). Those countries also have very weak laws about MLM, so it's easy for these companies to get away with ripping people off.

  9. Hello.

I am not in Shopping Sherlock MLM program. BUT, I have used it several times. So, this is what I can say:

    1. The way how that guy used Sherlock application is not correct. This is why. First thing that that guy did - he typed in in google search box "ipod touch". BUT the second thing that that guy did - he went to "Shopping" page - THIS IS NOT CORRECT.
When you use "Shopping Sherlock" application you should not do like this - it's not a correct way how to use it.
You need to type in to google search box your search item. And ONLY THEN you should go to "Shopping Sherlock" and push "Compare" button.
So, DON"T ever go to the "Shopping" option in the google search engine.

Seen a banked volume now of $2300, however, it is only virtual money and I will never get it unless I find another 4 people to sign up.

I started finding people and uplines were too busy to sign up the person.

A lot of the phillipinos had actually signed up lots of family under them to create a higher tree view and that is why they are doing well. They work as a unit and that is good. However, the SHOPPING SHERLOCK scheme is slowly looking like a scam to me.

I have contacted the Helpdesk Support several times with questions, they never answer or they lose the ticket and say it was not submitted. I am a former programming teacher so there were a lot of technicals I needed to ask. Not once have I received a response.

The uplines are all getting defensive - off course, they are going to lose their money.

When I asked for a reimbursement the company policy it was fine, now I am being told they cannot reimburse as UPLINES have all just been paid.

Will have to look into this and contact relevant agencies and companies.... Something is not right!

    2. Why is it that when something like the Shopping Sherlock comes along and helps people and our economy it is a scam or a pyramid scheme. Not all mlm companies are scams. The Shopping Sherlock is legit...for crying out loud we give it away for FREE and our customers have thousands of discounts, savings , deals, and cash back on many of items. As far as being a distributor...you are a independent business owner and much like any business owner there are costs to be in business. The Sherlock is set up like a franchise much like Mcdonalds or any other franchise. Franchises recruit all the time and they make money from those who chose to buy into there business. The corporate offices of these franchises are the uplines but yet they are legit....The Shopping Sherlock is a great opportunity to help people save money while distributors make money....All of the negative comments our coming from people who are ignorant people that truly don't understand the structure of businesses.

In short, you did not earn while your using their Free Apps for Free, whereas if you can become an affiliate with Shopping Sherlock. But if this company is a great opportunity and promise you a better good living someday, why not give it a try? Always remember, you might see a business is small when you just see it floating on sea like a small iceberg! but when finally find time to dive, you will see that it is just a tip of the iceberg, below this small iceberg is connected to great MOUNTAINS, that support the small tip of an ICEBERG. Remember what happened to TITANIC, they thought they are so big, and small iceberg is just a small thing, but they're wrong, because this SMALL TIP OF AN ICEBERG, sunk THEIR SHIP! I saved 1000.00 on ink Cartridges this year for my printer. 20 pack of ink cartridges delivered to my door free shipping. I paid 28.00 for all twenty. One is normally 50.00. Also my sister bought a coupon from the Sherlock daily deals for a 21 point inspection, fluid top up and tire rotation from Lube N Go. She payed 30.00 for it saving over 50%. When she used the coupon she also received a 25.00 gift card and a card to receive 10% off at King's Buffet any time she goes for up to 10 people.
We raised funds for One Billion rising giving away the app for free.
If you negative people don't want to save money or help others save money that's fine no worries. But you had better be careful you don't bring a law suit down on your head.

  25. Why is it that when something like the Shopping Sherlock comes along and helps people and our economy it is a scam or a pyramid scheme? Not all MLM companies are scams. The Shopping Sherlock is 100%legit (people should research it properly to find out for themselves that it is legit)...for crying out loud we give it away for FREE and our customers have thousands of discounts, savings , deals, and cash back on many of items. As far as being a distributor...you are an independent business owner and much like any business owner there are costs to be in business. The Sherlock is set up like a franchise much like Mcdonalds or any other franchise. Franchises recruit all the time and they make money from those who chose to buy into their business. The corporate offices of these franchises are the uplinks, but yet they are legit....The Shopping Sherlock is a great opportunity to help people save money while distributors make money....All of the negative comments are simply coming from people who are ignorant people that truly don't understand the structure of businesses.

  28. As per usual your article smacks as an newbe who is attempting to make a name for them self. I have been in network marketing since the seventies. Each new innovation of marketing and all methods of selling are a form of a NETWORK for that matter is a well policed system managed by the DTi. Only a few misguided people try it on and are court out in a very short space in time. The answer is please speak to people who have the knowledge about these things. and above all "Buyer beware"

  29. I too have tried out the Shopping Sherlock "easy income" dream. My friend got me into it and i paid the $249. I was calling everyone that i knew and trying to sell it at work, and no one was interested. I finally got one friend who then got his dad into it, and his dad had a contact in the Phillipines who he got, and then next thing i knew, that guy got 300 people on my downline! I was super excited about it and thought that that was it! No more slaving away at my full time job!....but no. all 300 of those people were on my right "leg" of my pyramid, and Sherlock doesn't pay out unless you have people on both sides. Really? I have 300 people in my downline and you're not going to pay me anything? In the Backoffice it showed I had a banked volume of around $1500, but i couldn't access that until I had other people in my left downline. Moral of the story, If you know your upline and your global, and you dont mind being "that guy" who is calling people and constantly posting on social media about it, then you might make some cash. You can absolutely make money on it, but you have to be willing to put a lot of hours into it. The search engine is pretty decent, as well as the mobile app; I mean essentially it is the same as Google Shopping, but it does have a nice interface. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed and got out of it after about 8 months of paying the 34.99 a month for all the business "tools."

  31. Anyone considering SS, just research My Shopping Genie .... its the same people just re-branded under a diff name, there is no click income and definitely no sale income. All the income is based on recruitment and monthly subs, No physical product to buy or sell. so if you are not a recruiter, I would seriously reconsider, also there is legacy of Fraud and reps not getting paid, and negative media coverage from Ireland.

  33. Please BEWARE of SCAM FRAUD by Economic Frauds Detection & Prevention Inc.

    Economic Frauds Scam - https://economicfrauds.net

Around May 23, this year my office received a call from a representative (he refused to mention his name) from Economic Frauds Detection & Prevention Inc. telling us that someone had filed a damaging complaint against our company, although he would give no further details, and we have no knowledge of any such complaint. During the conversation, he suggested that we should make a payment of $650 and in return that they will not make the complaint public as it would damage our reputation. We told him that we would think about it, because it is a corporate matter, and we don't have the discretion to make payments for reasons like this without approval from our bosses. Up until this week, they have been calling us about it continuously. They even threatened to make our company famous with the information that they have by exaggerating the complaint and posting it publicly on their site and all over the internet. They even gave us their site name, which is https://economicfrauds.net, and asked us to check for ourselves what had happened to other companies that refused to settle with them in the past.
