Vital C is one of the many Networking/MLM companies that exploits one form of vitamin C which is a salt called sodium ascorbate. The company have been around for years founded by Mr Richard L. King. As of the time of this writing they already have a wide range of products but still their main product is the Vitamin C supplement. The major advantage of sodium ascorbate than the usual Vitamin C is its higher PH level compared to Ascorbic acid, which means less irritating and can be taken in higher doses. It can even be safely administered via IV. 

What is the problem with Vital C?

With sodium ascorbate form itself there is no problem. It offers a more bio-available source of vitamin C and sure enough it has wide range of advantages compared to the much cheaper form of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). The main problem here is the regulation, caution and education with the disadvantages of sodium ascorbate that is not stressed by Vital C.
I heard a lot of stories told by its distributors that Vital C has no overdose, anyone can can take is as much as they want and even encourage people to take ridiculously high doses of it for optimum health. For me it looks like they do not know what they are doing or they do not care about the danger they put people into, all they are after are the sales of their product.

I visited their official website to look for any dosage instructions or warnings but I did not found any. Instead I found some claims that I think is questionable.

I marked it with red lines and circles to take note of those terms that I think is controversial and a proof that there is an advertisement of unregulated intake.

 

Why is it important to regulate sodium ascorbate?

Sodium ascorbate does not only comes with benefits. It also comes with considerations, warnings and side effects. This is the part where I think Vital C failed to let people know or maybe they do not want you to know. But I believe you need to know.

Effects

Sodium ascorbate and other forms of vitamin C are important for the health of bones, connective tissues and blood vessels, and help the body to absorb iron needed for the production of red blood cells. The Linus Pauling Institute notes that vitamin C also acts as a highly effective antioxidant, preventing damage to essential molecules in the body.

Benefits

Humans do not have the ability to make vitamin C, and must receive it through food sources or nutritional supplements. The FDA recommended daily allowance for vitamin C is 75 to 90 mg per day. Sodium ascorbate supplements benefit those who do not eat a diet high in vitamin C. Sodium ascorbate is preferred over ascorbic acid by those who want to avoid food acidity. This chemical can be added to many foods without affecting their flavor, although sodium ascorbate taken by itself carries a slightly salty taste.

Considerations

Because sodium ascorbate contains sodium, this form of vitamin C should be avoided by those following a low-sodium diet. A sodium tipsheet provided by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion cautions those trying to avoid sodium to limit their intake of sodium ascorbate and other food additives containing sodium. Talk to your doctor before taking vitamin C supplements, because some medicatons and health conditions can affect the way vitamin C is absorbed by the body.

Warning

Taken in high doses, sodium ascorbate can lead to negative health effects, including diarrhea, skin irritation and chest pain, according to the Linus Pauling Institute. The recommended upper limit for intake of all forms of vitamin C, including sodium ascorbate, has been set by the FDA at 2,000 mg daily. Prolonged high levels of sodium ascorbate can also damage the kidneys, upper respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract. Some people may experience an allergic reaction, particularly if taking high doses of vitamin C. Talk to your doctor before taking sodium ascorbate if you have a history of kidney or liver problems or are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

From the article above, we learned that sodium ascorbate should be moderated in various medical conditions that requires a low sodium diet. From this, two questions pops out in my mind. One, what are these medical conditions? Two, how common are these? I believe that the more common it is the more people is at risk of this what I thought to be a wrong advertisement practice of Vital C. I did my due diligence and these medical conditions came out. 

Hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure and Kidney failure.

Sodium ascorbate's disadvantages

Disadvantages is not only for ascorbic acid vitamin C, it is also present in sodium ascorbate. Even if Vital C did not mention any, it does not meat that there is none. 

Here below are some of them:

Blood Pressure Effects

One disadvantage of sodium ascorbate is its sodium content. Upon ingestion, the compound into broken into two components: the ascorbate that acts as functional vitamin C, and a sodium ion. As a result, consuming sodium ascorbate counts toward your sodium intake for the day, and excess consumption of both sodium ascorbate and sodium-containing processed foods may lead to high blood pressure over time, according to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. If you already suffer from high blood pressure, limit your intake of sodium ascorbate, or consider taking a different type of vitamin C supplement.

  

Kidney Stones

Another possible disadvantage of sodium ascorbate supplementation is an increased risk of kidney damage and the formation of kidney stones. Your kidneys contain thousands of specialized structures, called nephrons, that act as blood filtering units. Cells within the nephrons form filtration barriers, keeping nutrients in your bloodstream, while transporting waste products into the urine. Increasing the amounts of chemicals in the blood, such as through high supplementation with sodium ascorbate, can put a strain on your kidneys as they filter your blood. The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) explains that high levels of vitamin C, including sodium ascorbate, lead to the formation of crystals within the kidney, eventually causing potentially painful kidney stones. You can reduce your risk of kidney stones by limiting your vitamin C intake to 1000 mg per day, according to UMMC.

Genetic Mutations

In cases of high levels of supplementation with sodium ascorbate, you may experience serious health effects. One major disadvantage of high sodium ascorbate supplementation is an increased rate of genetic mutation. At high doses, sodium ascorbate acts as a carcinogen -- it can induce the development of genetic mutations in your cells. If you regularly take high doses of the supplement, your cells may develop cumulative mutations that may eventually lead to abnormal cell behavior. The Linus Pauling Institute explains that gene mutations due to excess vitamin C or sodium ascorbate supplementation can lead to cancer, as well as birth defects in a developing fetus. You can prevent this harmful side effect of sodium ascorbate by taking the supplement at a dosage recommended by a medical professional.

If you did read the articles it will now be clear that there are lots of the claims Vital C make that needs changing. Have a look at this another screen shot from their website:

 As you can see in the picture above, again I marked those phrases with red lines that I want you to take note of. I found it very wrong to encourage pregnant women to take HIGH doses of sodium ascorbate with the study presented by Vital C company that is more than 60 years old . I did not even see links of that said study as a reference. 

In addition, The article above that discussed the disadvantages of sodium ascorbate is updated (Article reviewed by Brandon Nolta Last updated on: Apr 26, 2011). And as you can see, it is a complete contradiction to what Vital C advise to pregnant mothers. A quote from the article about Genetic Mutation effect of sodium ascorbate clearly states "In cases of high levels of supplementation with sodium ascorbate, you may experience serious health effects. One major disadvantage of high sodium ascorbate supplementation is an increased rate of genetic mutation" and "Linus Pauling Institute explains that gene mutations due to excess vitamin C or sodium ascorbate supplementation can lead to cancer, as well as birth defects in a developing fetus".

This evidence convince me more that Vital C only cares about the sales of their sodium ascorbate vitamins and is willing to deceive people by using outdated study results that only benefits them.

 

My final words

Please do not get me wrong, I do not intend to bad mouth anyone but I need to present the facts in this situation. I need to let people be aware about the dangers brought about by wrong advertising practice. This is also not against sodium ascorbate, this is about the exaggerated health claims and excessive intake advice of Vital C that will potentially harm the public. 

The discovery of sodium ascorbate is wonderful, and it really has a lot to benefit peoples health. However, when abused it will also harm us. So I truly belive it must be regulated. 

 

Furthermore, this better form of vitamin C is more expensive than the common form ascorbic acid. And I am afraid this might not be easily accessible for the poor. They are the ones that need it badly. 

With this problem I think I maybe of help. I found out that you can easily make your sodium ascorbate at home using the cheap ascorbic acid and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) 

 

How to make sodium ascorbate at home 

Things You'll Need

• Bowl
• Ascorbic acid powder
• Baking soda

Instructions

1. Mix 2 tbsp. ascorbic acid powder with 1 tbsp. baking soda.

2. Add a small amount of water. The mixture will begin to fizz.

3. Mix gently until the fizzing stops. What you have left is sodium ascorbate.

• Dosing remedies may vary. Be sure to check with your health care provider before taking any supplements.

Have you heard of Fern C? The 9 year old MLM comapny selling vitamin C supplement in the Philippines? Well now, at the time of this writing they launched a new company called I-fern or Fern international. This new company now sells 4 products namely FERN D ( vitamin D supplement), MilkCa (calcium supplement), FERN-Activ ( a multivitamin) and Aurora (a facial cream).

There are 6 ways to earn in i-FERN

1. The Retail Profit
Earn up to 40% of the retail price
2. Fast Start Commissions
Receive up to $45 for your direct referrals depending on the package they purchase
3. Team Sales Commission
Earn $25 for every cycle you make and as much as $14,000 if you reach a certain sales volume.
4. Matching Bonus
As you earn Team Sales Commissions they are matched  and you earn more. It also increases as you move up in rank.
5. Group Sales Rebate
Earned monthly from the reorders made by your sales team up to 12 levels deep under the 3x12 matrix structure. Increases as you move up in rank.
6. Global Pool Bonus
Earn via the company's profit sharing.
3% o the company's global monthly global sales are are allotted for this.
 
This pay plan is without a doubt a lucrative one, but I still have my reservations. I think this doesn't solve the inherent problem with MLM/Networking which is the market saturation end game. The usual question of what happens to the bottom of the pyramid when almost everybody is already a member and there is no one to be recruited or sell to still remains.

If I were to change this compensation plan I would greatly reward those who are at the bottom because those that are on top are more likely rich by that time, on vacation and is not doing anything for the company anymore. Why not reward those who are working hard to promote the company?
Those who are on the streets giving flyers, those who are bugging family and friends to share the business opportunity of company and those who are online 24/7 writing blogs, adding as many friends on facebook and posting on every classified ads they can find on the internet. If only I am the CEO of this company at least I will give those bottom dwellers the Global Bonus Pool that is 50% of the company's net profit. Unfortunately, not everyone really cares about one another these days, its all about me me me.

My FAQ

We do not have a lot of history about i-FERN as it is just a newly launched company at this time of writing. But, we have FERN-C. The company FERN-C is 9 yrs old and is also run by the same people. It must have some kind of a track record already that we can check, and it is the best company to study to get information about  i-FERN's history. The most popular issues with FERN-C are the deceptive sales presentations of their distributors, unscientific testimonial claims and the true facts about the alkaline diet (for the full discussion on this topic regarding fern-c read http://paetechie.blogspot.com/2008/02/fern-c-sodium-ascorbate-alkaline-diet.html).
The questions now are this:
1. Can these issues of bad business practices be avoided in this new company?
2. What are the steps i-FERN are making to make sure this would not happen again?
3. Are they even making any precautions to avoid these problems?

Another thing that I can not help noticing are their products.The first one I have to mention is FERN-D, a Vitamin D supplement. For me it is the most ridiculous product. Vitamin D is normally acquired from sunshine that is totally FREE and abundant. In the Philippines we are NEVER out of it. Why would I pay a premium price when I could get my vitamin D for free and is easily available everywhere?  Why would I deviate from the natural way of getting my vitamin D to a synthetic supplement? Okay, maybe some people have abnormalities that they can not synthesize vitamin D in their skin but how many are these people? Do you think this product can easily be sold honestly?

The next worse product for me is the MilkCa "calcium from milk". It is just made from milk. What is so special about it? Why not just drink fresh milk? It will save you lots of money and keeps you away from the chemicals used to process it in a capsule form. The advertisement says "the goodness of milk in a capsule". How can milk be any good in a capsule? Many of us enjoys drinking milk, mostly kids, and also adults loves to put it in their tea or coffee. Why would it be good to encapsulate something we drink with pleasure?
If that is the case then big companies like San Miguel Beer and Coca Cola should be thinking of making their beverage available in capsule form.

For FERN-Active and Aurora the concern here is how competitive are these products to those that are available on retail stores. For aurora, Is this a unique one of its kind skin cream product? how does it compare via performance and price to a popular beauty creams like Belo products? For the multivitamin FERN activ, the competition is a lot tougher. There are a lot of heavy contenders out there like, Revicon, Enervon and Centrum. How will FERN-Activ be compared to them in terms of price and potency?

After these findings I would like to ask, did i-FERN really make a feasibility study of their product? Did they focus more about their product and not on the networking recruiting part?

Have you encountered this MLM company that looks like a a modeling agency? The company is called Frontrow Enterprise, and no, they are not a modeling agency nor it gives you a modeling career or job. They are a MLM/Networking company that sells health and beauty products. Do not be deceived by their pictures and postings on different job websites that looks like a real modeling job.

Who are behind this?

I went to their official site and I found this:

A disturbing story

While doing my research about the company, stumbled upon this very disturbing story which made me inflamed with anger.

But be it clear that THIS IS NOT PROVEN TRUE. Its up to you if you believe it or not. I just thought people have the right to know all the issues behind a company while doing their due diligence, true or not.

Frontrow Enterprise Cebu Scam

To all Facebookers and users of Online Social Networking sites, Heads up! Just want to let you know of the latest Scam that was so alarming these days.

One of the Scammers and Human Exploiters that i personally know is the Facebook Page/account Named Frontrow Enterprise Cebu, they pretend to be a talent scout who search for local talents, but in reality they are just exploiters of Women!

if you search facebook, this site contains multiple account to avoid detection.

i was one of their Victim and finally decided to go in public to expose their evil misdeeds.

I was invited in Facebook and participated in their Online Picture voting contest. Beware this is their first step in Identifying their probable Victims.

Last June i got one of the highest votes and participated very well i was chosen to represent a certain product and was instructed to go to their Office for an interview.

I was given an address and noticed that the address they give me and since i got no idea and was so excited i proceed without any questions.

Surprisingly the place i went was not likely an office but an apartment/condo type of unit. I knocked in the said Unit Door and was welcomed by 3 guys inside.

When i was inside they talked to me, and believe me they are a very professional talker.

first they will ask you questions like:

How old are you?

Where did you live?

why are you interested in our site? ans stuff like that...

Until time comes they will ask you this:

HOW FAR CAN YOU GO OR WHAT ELSE CAN YOU OFFER SO WE WILL HIRE YOU AS OUR ENDORSER?

Beware they are just waiting for you to say " your willing to offer yourself to land a job"

well they can take you but i can assure you theres NO JOB AT ALL! and all they do is tempt you this way:

1. Promised you that if you do whatever they ask without an question they will hire you and you will earn like 9k to 15k part time job and upto 35k in fulltime job. sometimes they will do a offer higher depending in how beautiful are you and how badly they want to exploit you sexually.

Beware, as they dont have any job at all, and if you will do what they asked you will just give yourself out of nothing and the worst part is you will get recorded in tape and posted in thier online sites and other Porn posting sites like Youporn.com

back to my real life story:

i get in and as mentioned i got asked by those questions.

and a guy told me, can you follow instructions without asking questions?

can we wont hire girls with pretty face and wont do the job for us.

so in excitement to take a job and thinking i can get the Job that i was dreaming off since i was a child, i Answer "YES"

So one guy asked me to prove it by making me naked in front of camera.

the guy said its a part of the interview and all interviewee must go the same process to see how far the can go in this kind of job.

they also said the video will be deleted once their boss will approve my application.

they said a lot of things just to convince me and finally i give in...

i was being naked in front of 3 cameras and this guys start touching my private parts,

1 guy force me to blow job hes penis and the other 2 forced me into sex.

those things happen way out of my consent, i keep on saying " please no " but they wont stop.

they keep on exploiting me for more than an hour.

3 guys had violated by woman rights and human rights that day.

and i really want to have revenge but they secure the tape which has the record of that event and warned me that if i expose the incident to them they will spread my video to every public video posting site like you tube and others.

i was crying badly that time and i exit the building like i lost everything, cause infact i did lost my virginity to those pig.

Nobody knows if this story is true, but it is worth mentioning to make the public aware just in case this horrible modus operandi exist.

Questions galore

The compensation plan of Frontrow Enterprise is not readily available online. I assume you have to be in one of their meetings to know it so I can not judge how lucrative it is, all I can say is, its not much different to a common MLM/Networking company. Now, I have to question, are they making much money on selling the product? or by recruitment? Is the inherent problem of MLM/Networking addressed like market saturation?

About their product, how is it priced compared to their competitors especially those that are not distributed via MLM/Networking? (e.g. their new vitamin C product)

What claims does it have for you? Is the value of the products really worth to the last centavo of your money? With that price tag, is it easy to sell it to ordinary people?

Another thing worth noticing is what I think a bad business practice called deception. Why is Frontrow Enterprise advertising and posting to different website as a job offer?

Its very rampant around the web, from jobstreet, facebook to the classified ads website sulit. A lot of them are titled "part time job" or "become a model endorser" with studio pictures of models. People are notoriously deceived expecting for a real job or a modeling career and visit their office in Quezon City, only to waste their time and money. And worse, get stuck in a 3 hrs networking seminar that they don't want.

DXN Ganoderma Philippines scam or not?

One of the top and popular company in the MLM realm is DXN. It was founded in Malaysia in 1993 by Mr. Siow Jin Lim. This company is not only marketing food supplements using Ganoderma or Lingzhi, but they also are cultivating and manufacturing their own products. Aside from that they also are in categories like household products, water treatment systems, personal care, skin care, food and beverages and cosmetic products. DXN is well known from its motto: "One Dragon One World One Market and One Mind". In 2010 they have over 4 million distributors from from 153 countries worldwide. This company has already passed the 10 years mark. The usual basis for a MLM company stability. Majority of MLMs have very short life span. Those who pass this 10 year mark will more likely last long.

Why DXN survived

The major reason I see why DXN have lasted for more than ten years is that they manufacture their own product. They do not rely on suppliers and they have their own farm and factory. In this way they save a lots of money. Another reason for DXN's longevity is that they do not use the controversial binary system in their compensation plan. Although binary is more lucrative,this system has a huge tendency of the members to concentrate and earn mainly by recruitment. Everybody who is knowledgeable in MLM knows  the more lucrative the pay plan is, the more chance the MLM company shortens its life span.
Additional pros about the company is their strict users policy and procedures that members are obliged to follow. This lowers DXN's reputation degradation due to minimal bad business practice and ugly experiences of people (see: http://www.dxnusa.com/forms/USEnPolicyProcedure.pdf).

Possible gray areas

DXN has been around for a long time now and distributors are rampant everywhere. Innate to MLM, they do not have area rights and in DXN, it is clearly stated in number 10 of their users policy and procedures.
 10. Restriction / Right to Area 
 All distributors are not allowed to have any restriction or right to a particular geographic
area.  Distributors are not permitted to declare that they have any specific right on a
particular area.
This now pose area saturation problems, unlike franchise business they have area contracts. They are protected from loss of sales and costumers due to competition from their own branch in the same area. But this protection is not naturally existing in MLMs. One of the great killers of MLM is market saturation and in DXN, like many MLMs this problem has not been addressed.

DXN have a wide range of products but mainly they are into food supplements and health beverages making use of Ganoderma or Lingzhi, which they culture and process themselves. Even with an own farm and factory, their prices are still no match to their competitions that are distributed via normal business model. A good example of this brand is Jimm's 7 in 1 coffee, It is not distributed via MLM so it is much cheaper and  are easily available to everybody on retail stores. It has lots of healthy herbs in it namely Agaricus blazei Murll, Korean ginseng, Spirulina and Ganoderma. It is a popular brand here in the Philippines so I can not help but consider it as a heavy contender of DXN.

A company founded by MR. FRANCO RENATO A. CHAVES that launched just August this year. Supreme Wealth Alliance mainly uses Facebook for promotion but a lot of advertisement post are also found on Sulit.com.ph. Their product is a  membership access to their online library full of eBooks. 
In the Philippines, Supreme wealth alliance is affiliated to Chavesnet Enterprises also owned by MR. FRANCO RENATO A. CHAVES but Supreme wealth alliance itself is registered in Belize in this address:

Compensation plan

The company's pay plan is a combination of two compensation plan called 2x2 Matrix and Infinity pass up.

They did this system to cover each others weaknesses as the weakness of pay plan 1 is the strength of pay plan 2 and vice versa. See the table below:

Some areas that need clarification

This is a very lucrative MLM business online and there are very few like this in the Philippines. However, It is not all that good and some issues needs to be clarified. 

The first issue I see that needs clarification is about the legality of the company. I believe that MR. FRANCO RENATO A. CHAVES is a Filipino, and Supreme wealth alliance is operating mostly in the Philippines.

Questions now arises. What is the real relationship of Chavesnet Enterprises to Supreme Wealth Alliance? 

Why is Supreme Wealth Alliance needs to be registered in Belize when the owner is Filipino and it is mainly operating in the Philippines? 

In addition, if you scroll back and take a close look at their scanned legal papers from Belize, why is the name of the founder and CEO of Supreme Wealth Alliance FRANCO RENATO A. CHAVES is no where to be found? 

Only the name of Oscar B, Sabido appears which I believe to be a notary public attorney in Belize based on the scanned documents. 

Another Issue that concerned me is about consumer rights and protection.  If this business has no physical office in the Philippines, where will consumers go to for their complaints? Also, Supreme Wealth Alliance is registered in another country, will Philippine law still have jurisdiction over Supreme Wealth Alliance in case of any fraud lawsuit? 

Lastly, a company that recruits and sells eBook about how to be good at recruiting others to make money smells fishy to me.
